Circular flute for four players
The circle flute is played by four flutists for one listener in the center of the instrument. The circle has a diameter of 2.5m and consists of four interconnected c-flutes that are linked to each other by tube connectors. Studio Brynjar & Veronika worked closely with renowned Parisian flute maker Jean-Yves Roosen and flutist Michael Schmid to complete the flute in Summer 2016.
Flutists Michael Schmid, Bjornar Habbestadt, Marieke Franssen, Bettina Berger and composer Þráinn Hjálmarsson explored the flute’s potential during a ten-day in-situ workshop in Flateyri, a small remote fishing village in the West-Fjords of Iceland and performed during its premiere at the exhibition FAISONS DE L’INCONNU UN ALLIÉ in Paris October 2016 by Fondation Galerie Lafayette, who produced the circle flute project. Since its development, the four flutists have performed in Switzerland, France, Iceland and Germany, to critical acclaim
