One week residency in Venice comming up, working with Lemur and a team from NTNU University of Trondheim.

On October 30, 2024, LEMUR premiered Shadowgraph at Nordic Music Days in Glasgow. Developed during our Cramb residency at the University of Glasgow, the piece explored how acoustic architecture can shape musical form, set in the grand staircase of the Glasgow City Chambers:

On June 3, I had the privilege of participating in In Nono’s Footsteps, a centennial tribute to Luigi Nono at the Bergen International Festival. Held in the University Aula, the event wove together symposium and concert under the theme of Nono’s sonic radicalism.

I contributed both as a speaker—sharing reflections on my research into Nono’s work—and as a performer, presenting two pieces by Salvatore Sciarrino. It was a powerful opportunity to explore how political and sonic experimentation still resonate today, and how I continue to engage with that legacy in my own practice.

Lemur has just been awarded the Cramb Resident in Music at the Glasgow University. Its the first time an ensemble has received this honor, and the first time tha a composition collective has been featured. We will visit and engage with students and faculty at both the spring and autum term this year.

 

Between December 2023 and April 2024, I composed and performed music for Library of Gestures, a dance production by Janne-Camilla Lyster at Dansens Hus in Oslo. Collaborating with Lyster, Jennifer Torrence, and twenty dancers across four generations, we created a performance fusing minimalist structure with poetic movement and sound, inspired by 19th-century gesture manuals.

I just premiered Off Soundings, a flute concerto by composer-cellist Lene Grenager, alongside the Caput Ensemble in Reykjavik. The work juxtaposes neck-breaking, fast-paced finger gymnastics with lyrical flute lines, shifting from percussive textures to ensemble resonances. Working with Lene is always a treat, this time in a more traditional composer to performer relationship. We are hoping to record the piece soon!

A new solo program presented in Bergen: See with Sound – a brand new piece from Kristine Tjøgersen, my own work Trio for bass flute, and  Fragments from Cold by Terje Vigen. Concert is a split with nate Wooley.

After a great development period, the premiere of Ventilation Beat is comming up with Avanti! Chamber Orchestra in Porvoo, Finland.Looking forward to working on stage with Bas Wiegers for the first time. Antti’s piece is built on my solo project On Playing the Flute, and a series of new performance tecjniques that we have developed together.

Together with Lemur and a stellar crew of fellow musicians from Ensemble Neon, asamisimassa and Aksiom, I joined the Norwegian premiere of In C, by Sasha Waltz and Terry Riley. Leading the rehearsals and collaborating with Michal Mualem from Sacha Waltz & Guests was a treat, and we were lucky to do to sets of shows, first at Sandvika kulturhus in march and later in an outdoor version onb the rooftop of the Oslo Operahouse. Critics had nice things to say, and the images were stellar.

A three-part site-specific work for quartet, electronics, and portable speakers. World premiere at Ultima, Oslo, september 21st. We har basically putting up three conserts, at three different sites, at breakfast, lunch and dinner time.. Its a full day. Picture here!

Lemur + Pendrys first full stage production Enemy of the People is happening: cutting through Ibsens text with the ensembles own sounds, lines and music whilst struggeling to remember the script and score of a well known american shark movie and fragments of Grieg’s cello sonata. The romantic celebration of truth against authority is pitted against the ramblings of mass murdering cult leader Jim Jones. The result is instantly contemporary and heartbreaking political.

Per Zanussi Ensemble hits the jazz crowd at Kongsberg. Its my first time there (!).

Performing with Andrea Parkins at the BLOW OUT festival, Oslo! Looking forward.

Spending 10 days in Iceland, working on a new project around the development of a circular flute (!) together with colleagues extraordinaire Mike Schmidt, Bettina Berger and Marieke Franssen.
